FAQ's

On our TREC training weekends all participants will learn the basics of the TREC competition and also improve on any techniques that they already possess. Instruction and practice will be included on the Orienteering (POR), Control of Gaits (CofG) and Cross Country Obstacles (PTV) Sections .

During the winter months we are offering TREC training courses in order to help folk improve their orienteering skills as well as their obstacle skills. As we have indoor facilities we are able to run these courses throughout the winter & spring months. We intend to run one course per month throughout the winter months so that by the spring folks are much more confident for the competitions next year. If you are interested in TREC let us know your details and when you are available and we will arrange a date when we have a large enough group.

Weekend TREC Training Programme

Friday evening: All participants arrive and register - possibility of a trip to the local inn for a social night out or stay in to relax.

Saturday AM: After breakfast will comprise of a lecture to explain the principles of the competition & also include allocation of suitable TREC horses and then a short work-out in the indoor school to work on the horses' and riders' control of gaits techniques.

Saturday PM: After lunch, we will work on a selection of obstacles for the Cross Country Phase. Examples of these obstacles might include; bending poles, ditch, hedge, trunk & step jumps, gates, immobility, ‘S’ bend, riding & leading, up and down slopes, canter poles, reversing, water crossings and foot-bridge crossings.

Saturday evening will allow all participants to relax in the Jacuzzi and chat about what they’ve learnt during the day.

Sunday: The schedule will start with a little teaching about the techniques of orienteering. Then there will be a short orienteering practice session, including riding out either in pairs or alone following a TREC like preset route. This might take the form of a mini-competition. There will be a final questions and answers session at the end of the afternoon over tea before guests leave.

TREC Training Days

We offer one day TREC Training courses.  They start at 10am and go through the Orienteering phase in the morning, followed by practice of some obstacles and control of gaits after lunch.  We are able to hire out horses for one day training as well as welcoming people with their own horse.

We intend to run regular TREC Training Days and weekends throughout 2008. As can be quite difficult to arrange suitable groups, numbers, etc we would like all interested parties to drop us a line (01874 711 398) or email us with what month(s) you would like to come (be available) and whether you would prefer day  / weekend training.  We can then add you to our list and then will have an idea whether it will be viable to run the event. Keep your eye here and we'll post you any new dates that fill up- which we hope to have on average once a month.

The Official TREC Video (Also available in DVD)

Dark Horse Media Productions (Fran Groves) and Cameraman Paul Keenan teamed up with Paul Turner of Trans Wales during the glorious summer of 2003 to make the Official TREC Video... This is a very professional job. As of November 20th 2003 it is on general release... So roll up and dig deep everyone to catch Paul in action... and most of it is at Cwmfforest and the surroundings that many of you will already know!

The video lasts 45 minutes and is a full introduction to TREC. It is the first ever film attempting to capture the full flavour of TREC competitions which have become more and more popular around Britain in recent years.

The video has voice-over by Alice Plunkett - from Channel 4's racing program - soon to be married to William Fox-Pitt... (famous event riding bloke I believe ;-) I think that he is shortlisted for the British Olympic Event Team for Athens 2004 or something...

Anyway, now we are ready to sell you all a copy of the ultimate TREC Christmas Present... a video featuring many of you and giving an important guide to TREC in GB to date... the presses are a rollin'... you can even get it in NTSC if you want it in the USA.

The cost of these videos is £16.99 plus £1.99 Post & Packaging in the UK... Basically £19. In Europe, the US and the rest of the world the total price will be £20 including P&P/video. We are able to make copies in NTSC (American Format) as well as Secam (French Format) - so don't worry about that... So roll up, roll up and get your very own copy... to love & cherish... Oh & get all your friends who might also be interested in trying TREC too get one too!

Anyway without further ado... here is the actual the video sleeve.

Videos are also available for any rider who would like to purchase one on the Trans Wales Trail.
Sometimes they are also available on other trails if requested. Please enquire on arrival.
