Cwmmeudwy Magic 12/05/92 - 09/09/09 R.I.P. On Wednesday the 9th of September 2009, we had to do the unthinkable at Cwmfforest and say good-bye to everybody's favourite cob - Magic. Magic was born on the 12th of May 1992 and was bought at the Royal Welsh Cob Sales later in that year by Michael Turner. He was broken in in 1995 and even caused a few broken ribs when doing that! A sure sign of a quality horse - being character when breaking in. He was never able to be ridden bareback due to his sensitive back which in the end was his downfall. He ended up paralysed in the rear end due to a spinal cord infection, and although still eating and drinking like a horse his state of life would not have been tenable. In the early days Magic took Paul all over Wales on the now defunct Castles Trail and then led the Trans Wales for the past 10 years. From 2000 onwards Magic was Paul's partner when they went to Austria in the British TREC Team as well as the following year to Belgium where they received the Team Silver medal on 9/9/01 - 2 days before 9/11. Throughout the past 10 years Magic has also been a regular in Riding Club Teams competing in Eventing Teams as well as Show Jumping Teams and also in BHS Hunter Trials competitions. Seldom did he not step up to the mark and rare was the occasion when he didn't come home placed or without having qualified for the finals! After a year off when he was lame because of a bout of ring-bone, Magic came
back with a vengeance and then started Team Chasing and flying round the biggest
courses of hedges in Britain. He continued to compete at TREC competitions
nationally (becoming Welsh Champion in 2006) & internationally - gaining the
Team Bronze Medal when the European Championships were held in Exmoor in 2006 as
well as competing in France in September last year. All the while Magic regularly carried Paul hunting over the years in any weather conditions he also competed at the Royal Welsh Show and at various county shows in Hunt Team Relay. He was a staple in the Brecon Hunt Team... On one occasion they even jumped the wicket gate under the grand-stand in the main ring in an attempt to catch up! Always ready to cheat Magic was more than happy to open gates himself and loose the entire Cwmfforest herd up the road given a chance... It was just his sense of humour! They say that people look like their dogs but in this case it has been said that Paul looked like his horse. All Paul can really say is that he's lost his best buddy and soul mate as well as his old pair of boots. What more can we say... We all miss you so much Magical Mr Mistofelees. |
